What is it?
The Beatles Marathon UK is a unique, community-led musical event held every other year at Portobello Town Hall. It is a full-day celebration of the greatest band in history, bringing together talented local musicians to perform the entirety of The Beatles’ studio catalogue.
From Please Please Me to Let It Be, we ensure every note is played live in a marathon session that captures the spirit and evolution of the Fab Four. Our aim is to put on an immersive experience where music lovers can enjoy a complete journey through the most influential discography in popular music.
How does it work?
The event is designed to be as flexible as it is ambitious – and you’ll be happy to know there’s no running involved! Bands work their way through The Beatles’ discography with a short intermission between sets to get instruments and equipment setup.
We warmly welcome attendees of all ages, creating a family-friendly atmosphere where you can come and go as you please throughout the day. Upon arrival, you will receive a wristband that grants you full access, allowing you to drop in for a single album or stay for the entire duration.
Between the musical sets, you can enjoy a variety of food and drink options sourced from local vendors, as well as dedicated entertainment to keep children engaged. We have curated the day to ensure that, whether you are a lifelong fan or a new listener, you have the comfort and facilities needed to enjoy an extended day of live music without having to sacrifice convenience.
Why are we doing it?
The Beatles Marathon UK was co-founded by Stuart and Scott McGachan as a tribute to their father, Pat.
Pat was a lifelong admirer of The Beatles, and his passion for their music defined much of the brothers’ upbringing. He sadly lost his life to Motor Neuron Disease (MND) in 2023, after a long fight with the disease – and tragically, just before the first Marathon.
